The Stage 88 and 76 are calibrated so that playing organ on weighted keys is easier than on most stage pianos. However some players want to use an external controller that features action closer to that of an organ. You can set up a split, but that cust the piano in half; you can set up a layer, but every note will feature piano/synth and organ.
If you want to play piano on the Stage, and organ with an external controller, here's how you set it up.
- Press the [Panel A] button and set up the piano or piano/synth layer of your choice.
- Press the [Panel B] button and set up the organ sound.
- While on Panel B, press [Shift] and [3] to enter the MIDI Menu.
- Use the [+] and [-] buttons above the main dial to find the page called "MIDI Organ B".
- Rotate the main dial to select the MIDI channel you want the Organ Section to respond to.
- Use the [+] and [-] buttons to access the following pages - "MIDI Panel B", "MIDI Piano B", MIDI Synth B", and "MIDI Dual KB" - and make sure none of them are set the same MIDI channel as Organ B.
- Without exiting, press the [Panel A] button and make sure every section in Panel A is set to a different MIDI channel, including the Organ.
- Hold down [Shift] and press [4] to enter the External Section settings and change the MIDI channels for both Panels A and B.
- Press [Shift] to exit.
- Press [Panel A] to make the piano setup your performance sound.
- Press [Store] to save the program, [Shift] plus [Store] to rename it.
On your Organ controller, set the outgoing MIDI channel to the same channel as the Stage's Organ B. When you play the Stage, you'll hear just the piano or piano/synth layer on Panel A; when you play the external controller, you'll hear only the organ sounds.
