Are the 61-key G2X and G2 Engine still available?
No; both the G2X and G2 Engine have been discontinued, The 37-key G2 is still in production, as is the G2 Expander, and Clavia continues to support the G2. No plans exist to replace the G2 at any time.
A gooseneck microphone used to come with the G2X - is that available as an accessory?
Not any more; the third-party company which produced them is out of business. However, any dynamic microphone wil work with the G2 and G2X.
I have the original Modular series - can my patches be used in the Modular G2?
The G2 cannot read "G1" patches directly. A third-party applicationcalled G2ools has been created as a G1-to-G2 "translator", but it is important to note that this was not developed by Clavia, nor with their authorization; use of that software is at the user's exclusive risk. Can I get every Nord synth sound ever on the G2?
Not really. While you can create a subtractive synth model that emulates the Leads 1, 2, or 2X, the sound will still be very different due to the clearer and less aggressive nature of the G2's outputs. The Lead 3's FM engine and multifilter are very difficult to model. The G2 doesn't use wavetables (part of the Stage and Wave synth engines), or samples (exclusive to the Wave) within its synth environment, either.
Has Clavia produced any tutorials for the G2 Editor?
A tutorial for building a basic synth is included in the G2's User Manual, as well as detailed descriptions of the G2's modules, but no comprehensive tutorial exists at this time. However, we all highly recommend a site run by synth designer and engineer Rob Hordijk - http://www.xs4all.nl/~rhordijk/ - where you can find basic, intermediate, and advanced tutorials that will get you designing sound in no time.
What other resources are available?
A great resource for Modular G2 users is www.electro-music.com, which is the home for many international G2 enthusiasts an programmers, and hosts a patch-exchange database.( If you use the site, please support its owners by purchasing music or making contributions.) |
