NORD C1 Dual-Manual Combo Organ

NORD C1 ORGAN FAQs

Is the C1's tonewheel organ model the same as the one in the Electro2 or Stage?

No, it is not. The C1's tonewheel organ model is a "Second Generation" model, taking advantage of the C1 as a dedicated organ clone. The Electro2 and Stage organs must share their keyboard action with piano sounds, resulting in a compromise in calibration. Because there are no piano or synth sounds on the C1, its organ model was developed to be optimally calibrated for more accurate organ performance.

Will the C1's organ model ever be available for the Electro 2 or Stage?

While OS upgrades to the Electro2 and Stage can tweak certain parameters to be closer to the C1's model, the C1's programming cannot be installed on the Electro2 or Stage - its advanced organ model is unique to the C1.

What is an organ "model", anyway?

Clavia's technique in reproducing the sound of classis tonewheel and transistor organs is to create a mathematical representation of each component involved in the process of sounds in those instruments. Those virtual components are then chained together, creating an accurate representation of their "3D" counterparts. Thus, no samples are used in the creation of organ sounds in the C1 (or Electro2 & Stage).

Are the C1's keybeds the same as the one found in the Electro2 61?

It is the same keybed, but the C1 as been calibrated to respond to a more sensitive touch by raising the contact point higher.

Can the C1 be set so that one manual is an external controller?

Yes, it can be. Both manuals on the C1 can operate on different MIDI channels, meaning one can serve as a controller. To accomplish this, set the maunal of your choice to the proper channel for your external module or keyboard, then "push in" all the drawbars (and turn the percussion off) so that the C1 doesn't make any sound when that manual is played.

NOTE: Standard MIDI channels 1-16 on the C1 will cause the external module to respond in the same manner as the C1's organ model, i.e. at a consistent velocity setting of 127. To make the C1's MIDI control send velocity changes, make sure you set that manual's MIDI channel to E-1-10 instead of channels 1-16; the 'E' stands for 'external'.

Will Clavia produce and release a Rack version of the C1?

No; physically the main PCB and panel PCB are too large to fit into a 19" enclosure.

What about a single-manual version?

At this time, there are no plans to create a single-manual version of the C1.

Where can I get a spare power cord?

They can be ordered through a Nord dealer - the part number is NAC, and they list for $20.

I'll be traveling to Europe - do I need a power converter?

No you do not. The internal power supply of the Nord C1 has a switch between 115v (US, Japan, Canada, etc.) and 230v (Europe, etc.). It must be done by a qualified technician if it's under warranty, since opening the case can void the warranty. It will also need a new fuse and fuse holder. You will need an adapter once you get to Europe, though. Be careful to remember setting the C1 back to 115v when returning to the United States.
